Mary DeSollar BEARDSTOWN, Ill. - Mary I. DeSollar, 59, of Beardstown, Ill., died Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at First United Methodist Church in Beardstown. Burial will be in the Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Friday, March 5, at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with the family meeting friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the funeral home. Her remains will also lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday, March 6. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown or Cass/Schuyler Area Hospice. Condolences may be sent to the family online at sagerfh@casscomm.com. She was born March 19, 1944, in Muscatine, the daughter of Joseph R. and Lela Gauger Thompson. She married Joseph A. DeSollar on Jan. 17, 1972, in Orlando, Fla. She graduated from Muscatine High School in the class of 1962. She was a faithful and dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Beardstown where she was a member of the Church Choir and Circle 4. Methodist Women vice president, Administrative Council, and Pastor/Parish Relations. She formerly taught Sunday School for several years and was also a sponsor for Methodist Youth Fellowship. As her children were growing up, she was active within their lives, serving as den mother and participating in the Parent-Teacher Organization. She was also previously employed at Knipmeyer Chevrolet, Illinois Forest Products, and 4-All-Seasons Florist all in Beardstown. She was cherished as a steadfast and truly loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister and she will be missed by her family. Survivors are her husband, Joseph DeSollar of Beardstown, Illinois, two sons, Michael "J.J." DeSollar and wife, Dawn, and Alex DeSollar, all of Beardstown; one daughter, Shawn Hobson and husband, Tharran, of Versailles; four grandchildren, Amanda and Lexi DeSollar and Nick and Wesley Hobson; her father-in-law, William R. DeSollar of Beardstown; two brothers, George Thompson and wife, Marie, of Muscatine, and Billy Thompson and wife, Margaret, of Grandview, five sisters, Frances Thuma and husband, Dale, of Tipton, Florence Boorn and Betty White and husband, Bud, both of Wilton, Bonnie Thompson and Patsy Dickey and husband, Ron, all of Muscatine; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, JoAnn Jefferson, and two brothers, Kenneth and Leland Thompson.
