M. Eugene Dicks COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa #45;- Melvin Eugene Dicks, 83, Columbus Junction, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. The Rev. Cathy Whitlatch will officiate. Burial will be at the Columbus City Cemetery with full military rites by the Allen Wright Hanft Post 100 American Legion. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home. Mr. Dicks was born Aug. 24, 1920, in Keokuk County, the son of Melvin and Gladys M. Chapman Dicks. He married Elaine Linville Nov. 6, 1949, in Sigourney. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1941-1945, which included an assignment in England. He worked as a city mail carrier for 27 1/2 years in Columbus Junction and as a rural carrier for 9 1/2 years. He was a member of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. e Dicks of Columbus Junction; two sons, Barry Dicks and wife, Lorri, of Muscatine and Gary Dicks and wife, Carol, of Des Moines; a daughter, Barbara McKillip and husband, Steve, of Muscatine; six grandchildren, Kristine Dicks, Amanda Dicks, Benjamin Dicks, Matthew Dicks, Timothy McKillip and Sarah McKillip; two brothers, Robert Dicks and wife, Jean, of Abilene, Texas, and Doren Dicks and wife, Betty, of Davenport; and four sisters, Evelyn Vanselow of Bollingbrook, Ill., Wilma Masonholder and Betty Knupp and husband, Dic, all of Columbus Junction, and Laverta Evans and husband, Delmore, of Columbus City. He was preceded in death by his parents.
