Delbert White NEWTON, Iowa #45;- Delbert 'Del' F. White, 74, Newton, formerly of Muscatine, Sioux City, Spencer and Ottumwa, died Thursday, June 3, at Skiff Medical Center, Hospice of Jasper County, Newton. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at First United Methodist Church, Newton. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery. Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. at the church. Pence-Reese Funeral Home, Newton, is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Jasper County, Skiff Medical Center, 204 N. Fourth Ave. E, Newton, IA 50208. Mr. White was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Francis Martin White and Sarah Angelica Van Brocklin. He married Helen Virginia Carter Nov. 25, 1953, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. He graduated from Waterloo East Senior High School, Waterloo. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 and was deployed to Japan during the Korean War. He received a bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, after which he taught high school for 10 years. Since his retirement, he was actively involved as a volunteer for SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and ESGR (Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve). He was president of the Iowa Chamber of Commerce Executives from 1985-1986. He received the Statesman of the Year award from the Iowa Department of Economic Development in 1986. He was also active in Rotary Club and served as president of the Muscatine Rotary Club from 1986-1987. He was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather and humanitarian. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Huseby and husband, Bruce, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sons, Douglas White and wife, Kris, of Altoona and Steve White and wife, Traci, of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Scott, Lindsay, Stacy, Emily, Stephen, Brandon and Austin; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Madison and Micah.
