Bessie Peterson

Bessie Peterson, 86, formerly of Stanhope, died Friday, August 13, 2010 at the Boone County Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Suzie Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center. Bessie Fern Zenor, daughter of Raynard and Pearl Baker Zenor, was born August 22, 1923 at Boone. She attended Zenorville rural school. Bessie worked at the munition plant at Ankeny. On March 6, 1943, she married Wayne Pierce Peterson at Boone. The couple farmed northeast of Stanhope for 50 years retiring to Ames in 1993. For 8 years, she had worked at the Hamilton Hospital as a nursing aide. Mr. Peterson died January 5, 1999. She had resided at the Eastern Star Center in Boone since November 29, 2007. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers and a sister. She was a member of the Stanhope Parish and very involved in numerous church activities. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She enjoyed cooking, baking and neighborhood coffees with her friends, and the light of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Bessie, to the Boone County Hospital Hospice Program or the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
