Wayne Dahms DECORAH, Iowa , Wayne Dahms, 82, Decorah, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at his home after a long illness. Services were Saturday, Aug. 28, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Decorah. The Rev. Gary Krapfl officiated. Casket bearers were George Tekippe, Tony Meyer, Chris Tekippe, Brian Tekippe, Aaron Meyer and Travis Meyer. Honorary casket bearers were Alicia Meyer, Linsey Meyer, Andrea Tekippe, Ashley Tekippe, Michelle Dahms and Anne Dahms. Burial was St. Francis DeSales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, with full military rites provided by the Brockman-Hammersland American Legion Post No. 503, Ossian. Visitations were Friday, Aug. 27, and Saturday at the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home, Decorah. Mr. Dahms was born May 8, 1922, on the home farm in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, the son of Fred and Elisa Kluss Dahms. He married Colette Kipp June 12, 1947, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian. He was the youngest of nine children. He moved with his parents to Castalia in March 1928 at age 6. 2, to Sept. 12, 1945, in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean areas. After his discharge he returned and joined his brother, Clarence, farming on his fatherÕs farm two miles southwest of Castalia. He and his wife started farming in 1947 on the Dahms farm, later buying the farm and remained there for 48 years. They moved to Decorah in 1995. He especially enjoyed woodworking in earlier days and later fishing trips to Minnesota lakes and the Mississippi with family. He also enjoyed watching baseball games, playing Euchre and Rummy card games with his grandchildren and friends. Another pastime of his was watching Saturday evening TV programs of Guy Lombardo and Lawrence Welk. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Maureen Tekippe and husband George and Marilyn Meyer and husband Tony, all of Decorah; a son, David Dahms and wife Ginger of Muscatine; grandchildren, Chris Tekippe and wife Jen, Andrea, Brian and Ashley Tekippe, Aaron Meyer and wife Dori, Alicia, Travis and Linsey Meyer and Michelle and Anne Dahms. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Harvey, Lloyd, Clarence, Gilbert and Earl Dahms; and three sisters, Ethel Meyer, Mabel Christofferson and Lorene Dahms.
