Duane Thomas Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. WEST LIBERTY, Iowa #45;- Duane E. 'Bud' Thomas, 81, West Liberty, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, after an extended illness. The Rev. Al Zimmerman will officiate the service. Burial of cremains will be at Downey Cemetery, Downey. Memorials may be made to the West Liberty Rescue Unit. Mr. Thomas was born June 8, 1923, in Lone Tree, the son of Elmer and Emma Zinkula Thomas. He married Doris M. Peak July 29, 1943, in Iowa. He graduated from West Branch High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed in the West Liberty, West Branch and Atalissa area during his lifetime. He was a member of First Church United, West Liberty, the American Legion Post 509, and the NFO. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Harrington and husband Bill of Blue Grass and Janet Forbes of West Liberty; a son, Ted Thomas of West Liberty; two sisters, Mina Landis of Fort Dodge and Maryann Meder of West Branch; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
