Meyer, 105, Great Bend, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. Casket bearers are the Military Compliment from Fort Riley, Kan. Honorary casket bearers are Ken Meyer, Jerry Gravatt, Bud Steadman, Chase Gravatt, Kolbe Gravatt, Carter Gravatt, Randyl Meyer and Lindsey Herlein. Mr. Meyer was born May 13, 1899, in Great Bend, the son of Henry and Anna Brandt Meyer. He married Bertha L. Otte Dec. 27, 1920, in Hutchinson, Kan. She preceded him in death Feb. 25, 1997. They were married 76 years. He was one of the last four surviving World War I veterans in the United States. He enjoyed gardening, yard work, playing cards and being a handyman. He was a mechanic and machinist all his life. During World War II, he worked at Boeing, Wichita, Kan. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Meyer of Aurora, Colo.; two grandchildren, Ken Meyer and wife, Judy, of Muscatine and Alyn Meyer-Gravatt and husband, Jerry, of Rapid City, S.D.; five great-gran...[more]

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Marion Meyer in 2004; and three sisters.
