Shirley Wehr Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, Kalona United Methodist Church, Kalona. RICHMOND, Iowa #45;- Shirley Wehr, 66, Richmond, died May 23, 2005. The Revs. Lynn Patrick and Ron Breese will officiate the services. Musical selections will be provided by Meg Scarff, pianist, Hannah Swartzentruber and Erica Yoder. Memorial funds may be given to Kalona United Methodist Church, Iowa City Hospice or the Audubon Society. Mrs. Wehr was born May 6, 1939, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of John and Mary Dawson Mallory. She married Kenneth Wehr Oct. 12, 1957, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1957. During the childhood of her four children, she was a stay-at-home mom. For the past 20 years, she has been employed by Keepsake Plates, Kalona. But first and foremost, she was an artist. She received the prestigious Grumbacher silver medal award in 1991. She was a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society. She was a prolific artist in various media. In April, she completed and delivered an oil portrait of a physician to the Jefferson County Hospital, Fairfield. Survivors include her husband; four children, Sherry Swartzentruber and husband Jim of Richmond, Laurie Lettington and husband Mark of Ottumwa, Todd Wehr and wife Cindy of Ankeny and John Wehr and wife Christy of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maureen Leonard of Pineville, Mo., and Gladys Gates and husband Phil of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents.
