Richard L. Spears

Richard L. Spears (67), passed away on March 19, 2021 at his home in Phoenix, AZ. He was the partner of William Gatley. They shared 29 years of partnership together. Born in New Albany, MS, Richard was the son of Willie L. and Mary L. Spears. He graduated from W.P. Daniel High School in New Albany, MS. He was employed at Indian Creek High School and worked as an English Literature Teacher. Richard was a member of the Watson Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading and writing, especially cards and letters to his siblings. He will be remembered for his happy spirit. Richard was a very giving person, most of all he loved to spend time with his large family and at all their gatherings over the years. He is survived by a partner, William Gatley, sisters Dorothy Palmer and Cecelia Spears, brothers John (Gwen), Harry (Melodee), and James "Fred" (Carolyn). Richard is predeceased by his brothers Jessie Harris and Willie Spears and his sisters Janic Woodruff and Mary Barnes. [more]
