LARA, SALVADOR J. January 28, 1932 - March 27, 2021 Salvador "Sal" Lara, 89, passed away on March 27, 2021 at Hospice Austin's Christopher House. He was the loving husband of Mercedes (Mercy) Saucedo Lara. They shared 63 years of marriage together. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he was the son of Zeferino Lara and Elisa Reyes Lara. He joined the United States Army in 1956 and received an honorable discharge in 1958. He worked for Block Distributing Company as a liquor merchandiser for 30 years. He loved his job and he took pride in his work. He loved spending time with family and friends and on weekends he could be found fishing on the coast or hunting in south Texas. He enjoyed recounting stories of his numerous fishing and hunting trips. He loved a good joke and was skilled at spinning a tale. His stories were always accompanied by a sly grin and contagious laughter. Sal is predeceased by his parents, his sisters Elisa and Theresa, bothers Isaac and Refugio, and his son Salvador Jr. (Andy). n (Margaret) Lara and Frank (Dora) Lara; and his nine grandchildren, John Jr., Frank, Jim, Isaac (Yvonne), Serena, Erica, Alison, Hector, and Marisela (Curtis). The funeral Service will be held on April 7, 2021 at 1:00PM at San Jose Catholic Church, 2425 Oak Crest Ave., Austin, Texas 78704 with internment at Assumption Cemetery, 3650 S IH35 Frontage Rd., Austin, Texas 78741. Following the burial service there will be a celebration of life at Mercury Hall, 615 Cardinal Ln., Austin, TX 78704. The visitation will be held on April 6, from 5:00 - 7:00PM at Harrell's Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, Texas 78745; immediately followed by the praying of the rosary. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to Hospice Austin's Christopher House, 2820 E. Martin Luther King Jr., Austin, TX 78702 and/or Mount Trace Convent, Attn: Sister Louise Mary, 1438 Warne Ave, St. Louis, MO 63107-1015.
