Mary Lou Murray

Mary Lou Murray, 90, of West Burlington, died on her 90th birthday, Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Mary Lou was born August 29, 1920 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Mayme Smith Mapes. On January 24, 1943, she married Dale Murray in Middletown. She worked as a telephone operator and later as a secretary for the West Burlington School District. She attended school in Middletown and was a 1939 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, cooking for her family and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. She celebrated her 90th birthday on August 15 with her family. She will be remembered for her generous heart, sense of humor and love of animals. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 2 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Rev. Jackie Bradford will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, rural Danville. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM on Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Memorials have been established to the West Burlington United Methodist Church and Great River Hospice House.
