FRANKLIN SOJKA WASHINGTON, Iowa #45;- Franklin 'Frank' LeRoy Sojka, 72, Washington, died Saturday, December 31, 2005, at the Halcyon House, Washington, after failing in health for the past several years. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2008, at the St. James Catholic Church, Washington. The Revs. Ed O'Melia and Charles Fladung will officiate the services. Burial, with military honors, will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, Washington. Visitation begins at noon on Tuesday, January 3, 2008, with family present from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and 7 p.m. prayer services, Jones Eden Funeral Home, Washington. A memorial has been established for Washington County Public Health. Mr. Sojka was born March 15, 1933, in rural Washington, the son of Yaro and Mabel Kos Sojka. He married Rita Schultz on September 7, 1957, in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1995. He attended school in Washington and graduated from Washington High School. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus (Third and Fourth Degree); past member of Farm Bureau; was past president of the Iowa Cattleman's Association; and he served on the Washington County Hospital Board for 20 years. Survivors include six children, Dr. Matthew Sojka and wife, Kim, of Muscatine, Martin Sojka and wife, Brenda, of Winnebago, Illinois, Marvin Sojka and wife, Lori, of Magnolia, Texas, Angela Sojka of Glen St. Mary's, Florida, Myron Sojka and wife, Katie, of Logan, Renee Cunningham and husband, Jeff, of Chesapeake, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Nadyne LaRouche of Indianapolis, Indiana, Eldiene Amer of Anchorage, Alaska and Donna Reha of Wellman; and a brother, Alvin Sojka of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, a son, Michael Sojka; a sister, Hazel Chalupa; and three brothers, Walter, Elmer and George Sojka.
