James ''Jim'' Edwin Short

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, St. Paul's Catholic Church. Visitation: 8 a.m.- 8 p.m., with a 3 p.m. rosary and 6 p.m. Christian wake service, Wednesday, Jan. 11, Lunning Chapel. The family will be present after the wake service until 8 p.m. James "Jim" Edwin Short, 69, Burlington, died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at his home. The Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf will officiate the services. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts 10102 and 9162, American Legion Post 52, Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League and the AMVETS Post 29. A memorial has been established for the Wapello Athletic Association. Mr. Short was born Aug. 22, 1936, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Vern Edwin and Dolores Matilda Siefken Short. He married Patricia Joan Byrne on Sept. 7, 1957, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Burlington. He was a graduate of Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. Ss John and Paul Catholic Church of Burlington. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed trapping, cross stitching, flower and vegetable gardening and karaoke. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Denise Bruner and husband Mike of Trenton, Mo. and Deborah Lewis and husband Greg of Cedar Rapids; a son, Darren Short and wife Stephanie of Wapello; five grandchildren, Troy and Travis Bruner, Lauren Lewis, and Sam and Casey Short; a sister, Delores Springfield and husband Jim of Yakima, Wash.; four stepsisters, Edie Moore and husband Kenny, Doris Talbott and husband Leland, Nancy Alexander and husband Don and Merlene White, all of Monmouth, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Short.
