Calvin Staats Graveside services: 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, 2907 Mulberry Ave. Calvin C. Staats, 77, Muscatine, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at the Muscatine Care Center. After the burial, a time of food and fellowship will be held in the Community Room at the funeral home. A memorial has been established at the funeral home Mr. Staats was born May 12, 1929, in Tipton, the son of Walter H. and Josephine M. Adams Staats. He married Verlea R. Van Dolah on July 24, 1950, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death in 2004. He moved to the Muscatine area from Sterling, Ill. in 1971. He was employed by Timm Construction as a carpenter from 1970-94. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall and enjoyed fishing, hunting and bee-keeping. Survivors include a son, Dennis Staats and wife Jacqueline of Sterling; two daughters, Gail Thompson and husband Butch of Reynolds, Ill. and Karen Lynne Staats of Muscatine; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
