MRS. MARGARET D (PEG) WELSH Mrs. Margaret D. (Peg) Welsh, 91, Onion Creek resident, died on May 22, 2021. She was born January 25, 1930 in Framingham, Massachusetts to James T. and Margaret V. Duane. Due to injuries suffered by her father during WWI, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona when Peg was 7 years old. She graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in Education and met her husband while teaching second grade on Williams AFB. Peg was the devoted wife of an Air Force pilot and the loving mother of 7 children for whom she made homes in Germany, England, Japan and throughout the United States during 24 years of service and 22 residence changes. Peg and her husband moved to Austin in 1967, where she became northeast neighborhood Girl Scout chairwoman and served on the Lone Star Girl Scout Council. For her dedication and hard work, Peg was awarded the Council's highest honor, the Thanks Badge. In 1971 she received a certificate of appreciation for outstanding interest and service from the Volunteer Bureau of the Community Council of Austin and Travis County. ear. After her husband's return from the Vietnam conflict, both served as co-presidents of the Pearce Junior High School PTA. Peg also served several years on the Sacred Heart Catholic School Board. In 1973, Peg's husband was assigned to Kadena AB in Okinawa, Japan. Peg was elected president of the Kadena Air Base Officers' Wives Club and oversaw not only club business but also several leprosariums that were a special project of the club and a gift shop that generated a million dollars a year in income. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1976, the Welshes settled in Austin. In 1982, Peg was elected president of the Onion Creek Ladies' Association. She served 10 years as volunteer Catholic Christian Doctrine (CCD) director of St. Peter the Apostle Church. Peg was also an H&R Block tax office supervisor for 15 years. Peg was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Col. Mark A. Welsh, Jr., USAF (ret.); her beloved daughter Monica Marie; brother and sister-in-law James and Marilyn Duane, Belfast, Maine and sister and brother-in-law Mary Pat and John Dwyer, Phoenix, Arizona; She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law General Mark and Betty Welsh, USAF, College Station, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Mary Nan and Greg Leinweber, San Antonio, Texas; daughter Molly Anderson, Georgetown, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Maureen and Vince Farelli, Austin, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Margaret Elisa (Puff) and Buddy Rogers, Princeton, Indiana; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Dr. Jenifer Welsh, Coppell, Texas; six grandsons, five granddaughters, nine great grandsons and eleven great granddaughters. She was a superior, gracious, humble, loving, world-class lady, wife and mom. She will be greatly missed. A rosary and funeral Mass will be held at Santa Cruz Catholic Church, 1100 Main Street, Buda, Texas, on Monday, June 7. The rosary will begin at 10:00 AM. Mass will begin at 11:00 AM followed by burial in Live Oak Cemetery, Father Jared Cooke officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Col.
