Smith, 89, West Liberty, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty, after an extended illness. Betsey Neipert will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Memorials may be made to the West Liberty Fire and Rescue Unit. Mr. Smith was born Jan. 14, 1918, in West Liberty, the son of Earl and Della Kramer Smith. He married Virginia Mae Brown on Feb. 21, 1940, in Mount Pleasant. She preceded him in death in 1980. He had farmed for several years and later worked for the City of West Liberty from 1960 until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of the West Liberty Saddle Club. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Christensen of Muscatine and Susan Hall and husband Marvin of West Liberty; three sons, Robert A. Smith and wife Nancy and Richard D. Smith and wife Vera, all of West Liberty, and William E.
