Johnny George Mays was born on June 10, 1940, to the late George W. and Hazel Mays.
Johnny was born in Pike County, GA, and in 1951 he moved to Homestead, FL. At the age of 16, he completed school at Mays Junior High. He then started working at Service Auto where he worked his way up to manager after 50 years of employment.
Johnny was a member of Gould's Temple COGIC before leaving Florida.
Johnny then moved back to Pike County in 1996, where he met and married Catherleen Durham.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His eight children (five sons and three daughters); Lil Johnny (Mae), Omar (Botaswanna), Karani Telly (Rhonda), and Tim (Natalie), Brenda (Chris), Cathy (Cory), and Wycidra. One daughter; Lenesha preceded him in death. He also leaves 21 grandchildren, one faithful and devoted sister; Annette (Edward) Parrish. One sister; Larena (Red)
Darden also preceded him in death. He leaves a host of sisters and brothers-in-law; Bertha (John) Amey, Daisy Harris, Carrie Wimbush, Julia Wimbush, Silas, Jr. (Evelyn) Wimbush, George (Mozel) Wimbush, Paul Wimbush, and Essex Wimbush plus a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
