Verlee Holmes Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. Visitation: One hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home. WAPELLO, Iowa -- Verlee Elma Holmes, 91, of Wapello, died Monday, Aug. 13, at Unity Hospital. The Rev. James H. Huston will officiate. Her body will be cremated. Burial will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Shriners Children's Hospital, the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Wapello Community Ambulance Service. She was born April 20, 1916, in Grandview, the daughter of Claude and Margaret Jarvis Hammer. She married George E. Holmes July 16, 1938, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1997. She graduated from Grandview High School. She was a member of the Lone Tree Aid Society, the Women's Federated Club and a former member of the Grandview Community Church. She was a homemaker and a retired floral designer from several shops, including the Irish Ivy in Wapello.
