Alice Strouse Services: 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Visitation: 4-8 p.m. today, Aug. 29, funeral home. DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Alice L. Strouse, 88, of Davenport, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at the Kahl Home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Davenport. Mrs. Strouse was born in Muscatine to John C. and Freida Kemble. She married Larry Strouse Sept. 1, 1939, in Muscatine. He died July 2, 1987. For many years, she worked as a bookkeeper for CASE Credit Union. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1945 and a 43-year member of the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing cards, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Connie Denkmann and her husband, John, and Mary Jo Holder of Davenport; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy L. Vetter of Emmett, Wash; two special nieces; and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Stratman. [more]
