Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. WAPELLO, Iowa -- Dillon D. Schantz, 88, of Wapello, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the Great River Medical Center in Burlington, following a brief illness. The Rev. Darryl Erickson will officiate. Internment will be at the Oregon Township Cemetery. A general memorial has been established. Mr. Schantz was born Oct. 26, 1918, in Washington County, to Henry R. and Bertha Alice (Miller) Schantz. He was raised in Washington County and attended country school in Nobel. He married Margaret (Peg) Edmondson March 31, 1940, at his parent's home in Washington. He was drafted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during WWII. He was a general contractor, farmed and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ainsworth. He also served in the National Guard. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his grandchildren.
