Phyllis Nelson Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, funeral home. ALEDO, Ill. -- Phyllis J. Nelson, 79, of Aledo, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at her home. Burial will be in the Aledo Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Joy United Methodist Church or Serenity Hospice. Mrs. Nelson was born April 8, 1928, in New Boston, the daughter of Willard and Bessie Jackson Giles. She graduated from Joy High School in 1946 and attended McMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., and the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport. She was employed as a secretary for area attorneys, worked at the Joy Bank and assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm. She was a member of the Joy United Methodist Church, Joy Methodist Women, the Golden Links Club, Mercer VFW Post 1571 Auxiliary, Mercer County YMCA and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed square dancing, polka, bowling, traveling and playing cards in area card clubs. She loved the farm, especially the horses, and she enjoyed her family and their sporting events. two daughters, Sandy (Don) Riddell of Aledo and Pam (Doug) Burg of Willow Street, Penn.; two grandchildren, David (Chrissy) Riddell of Andover, Ill., and Josh Burg of Willow Street, Penn.; and two great-grandchildren, Conner and Zack Riddell of Andover. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Bruce Nelson; and a grandson, Adam Burg.
