Following college graduation, he was hired as an industrial arts teacher and counselor in Florida and while there, contracted encephalitis from which he never recovered. He entered Colonial Manor Care Center in 1984. His hobbies were listening to music, watching movies and playing games on the computer. He will be dearly missed by his mother; a brother, Gary Slight and wife, Sue, of Muscatine; and two nieces, Sarah Slight of New York City and Meagan Slight of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his father.
