IOWA CITY, Iowa - Lavere Richard Buroker, 90, of Iowa City, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Mercy Hospital, following a short illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Buroker was born June 29, 1917, in New Vienna, Iowa, the son of Martin and Lulu (Wunsch) Buroker. He married Geraldine LaVelle on June 20, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In 1945, he graduated from Alexian Brothers College of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo. He was owner/operator of the Wilton Nursing Home for over 41 years. He was past president of the Wilton Lions Club and Wilton Country Club and was at one time the mayor of Wilton. He is survived by his wife; a son, Dr. Thomas Buroker (Patricia) of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Dr. Daniel Buroker and Dr. Kristin Buroker-Marsh (Tyler) of Iowa City; and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth.
