AMY MEYER MUSCATINE, Iowa - Amy K. Meyer, 40, of Muscatine, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, Genesis Hospital, West Campus, Davenport. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, 6th and Sycamore. Reverend Paul Ostrem of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser Street. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to the family in care of Kathy Meyer. Amy was born on August 4, 1967, in Davenport, the daughter of Larry C. and Kathy R. Jenkins Meyer. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Iowa, in 1985. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1990 with degrees in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. She received her Masters in Education in 2004, from Western Illinois University. Amy was a school teacher having taught 3rd grade at Bishop Hayes Elementary, teaching at the American School of Kuwait, ELP (Extended Learning Program) in the Muscatine School System, and 4th grade at Washington Sch...[more]

. She received an Excellence in Education Award twice. She wrote the Good News column in the Muscatine Journal for over 10 years. She was a friend of Zion Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, and the Muscatine Catholic Community. She was a member of Alpha Zi Delta Sorority at Iowa State University. She volunteered at Gilda's Club before becoming a member and spokesperson for the club. She enjoyed riding RAGBRAI, loved to travel, and enjoyed being a foster mother. Survivors include her parents, Larry and Kathy Meyer of Muscatine; two brothers, Patrick J. Meyer and wife, Kami, of Indianola, and Steven L. Meyer and girlfriend, Jessica Rinnert, of Muscatine; a nephew and nieces, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ralph and Ruth Jenkins, and her paternal grandparents, Carlton and Violet Meyer; two aunts, Judy Petersen and Marlene Steen.
