Roy F. Eckhardt Services: 10 a.m. Eastern Star, Monday, March 10, Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation: 2-5 p.m. Sunday, mortuary with a Masonic service at 5 p.m. DAVENPORT, IOWA - Roy F. Eckhardt, 84, of Davenport, passed away surrounded by his loving family, Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus. Entombment will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. He was born Aug. 6, 1923, the son of Henry and Daisy (Wintermute) Eckhardt. He married Marian Jane Smith on May 3, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death Jan. 1, 1997. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and Seabees during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he worked for more than 34 years for the City of Davenport as superintendent of streets. He was a master carpenter, later owning Ajeck Construction Co. in Davenport. He also worked for Kay's Merchandise for many years as the assistant manager of sporting goods, specializing in guns and ammo. His memberships include, Mason Blue Lodge 32nd degree, KAABA Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star - Trinity Chapter No. 531, White Shrine, Mohassan Grotto, and Job's Daughters. coin collector, fisherman and enjoyed auctions. He was also a wonderful harmonica player and most of all a devoted family man, always putting them first. Those left to honor his memory include his companion and friend, Anna Brooks, sons, Roy David Eckhardt, Anaheim, Calif., Michael Francis Eckhardt and wife, Guillermina, Corona, Calif., Douglas Henry Eckhardt and wife, Barbara, Rock Island, Ill. Gregory Calvin Eckhardt, Davenport; daughter, Melodie Busch Kimm and husband Philip, Blue Grass; brother, Henry Eckhardt, Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and daughter, Jane Ann.
