years St. John Berchmans. St. John Berchmans was his Parish where he and Gary served as Alter Boys. Fr. Verweil always knew how to find Mike and Gary; either at the house playing baseball or at Clark playing ball. He would often pick them up to serve Mass for a funeral when needed. Mike and Gary would put their baseball gloves in the car and go. During his early years, Mike spent most of his time playing baseball and football with Gary and his friends. Sports came first, school came second. Still Mike was always blessed with intelligence and maturity beyond his years. He would read books and the newspaper when he was not playing sports. Mike would start his days in the summer reading the sports section and he would save a little time for the rest of the news. The newspaper reading was part of his morning ritual. Mike and Gary would share the newspaper until their best friend, Kevin Gray, would come over and then the three would be off to play baseball for the next 10-12 hours. The cooler months and winter meant football all day with school mixed in. Sports was Mike's passion. He was a sportswriter for the Arthur Middle School newspaper. A neighbor, who was a disc jockey in Detroit was so impressed with Mike's speaking ability and sports knowledge that he added Mike to his Friday night show to do the weekly sports report. Mike would call in every Friday night at 10pm. At 12 years old, Mike was billed as the youngest sportscaster in America. His family, friends and of course his little brother were so proud. He really was a childhood prodigy of sorts. Again, at age 12, Mike appeared on the local news in the Detroit Checkers Championship where he finished as the city runner up. During those years Mike was known most for his batting on the baseball field. Education had not yet caught his interest. Mike attended Finney High School and graduated from Servite. In high school, Mike started taking his schoolwork more seriously. It was decided, around this time, that he and Gary wanted to become Lawyers. Mike, the mature one, understood he had to be a good example to his brother. At Finney, Mike won the school's Current Event Knowledge Contest. He again appeared on the local news when he was a city finalist in the contest. Mike played on the Servite baseball team and graduated from Servite with good, but not spectacular, grades. Still in his vision, Mike wanted more education and to someday open up a law firm with Gary. Mike applied for a scholarship to Wayne County Community College and received a two-year scholarship. Mike made good on his chance in college and received straight A's for 2 years at WCCC. While he waited for Gary to finish high school, they enrolled together at Olivet College. Mike played baseball and wrote in the school paper. Often times his articles were picked up by local newspapers and published. This occurred several times with the Lansing State journal, Battle Creek Enquirer and others. These large sized newspapers saw his work and shared it with the community. After college was law school in Lansing. Many great friendships were formed, and as planned Mike graduated with Gary and passed the Bar. The dream was realized; Gary and Mike opened their own law firm. Mike began his practice at 36th District Court. He and Gary practiced there for many years and that was the work he was known for. Working side by side with his brother, Mike literally helped thousands of criminal defendants with their problems for many years. Attorneys from all over Metropolitan Detroit would call Mike and Gary for help whenever they had a problem at 36th District Court. Mike continued helping clients with Gary until his transition. Mike met Joy, his wife, twenty-one years ago. They were married the next year and have been inseparable ever since. A match truly made in heaven. Joy spent her days helping Mike with his various causes, events and at the office. Along with Gary, the three became inseparable at the office for the next twenty-one years. It was always Mike and Gary or Gary and Mike. Now it was Gary, Mike and Joy and it remained that way until today. At the office, Mike's dream came true. He worked with Gary and Joy the rest of his days. Mike's dad worked at the office and his mom would help too. Surrounded by the loves of his life Mike worked happily until his passing. The Janadia Law Office became a place where his work, family and friends all met. Friends would stop by and there were always gatherings. Things had turned out just like Mike pictured when he was young. Nothing gave Mike more satisfaction that helping others with a problem. He filled his days and nights answering phones and counseling friends and clients. Mike's life was one of giving and charity; himself last, others first. Always the first to come when someone needed help. This could be anyone. A true example to the world. Sports, television, movies, traveling to his cottage in Canada, discussing politics were amongst Mike's many interests. Mike loved having fun. He loved being with friends and his family. We will miss you dearly Mike and will continue on with the work and example you left for us. Rest in peace.
