ALBERTA SCHMELZER MUSCATINE, Iowa - Alberta M. Schmelzer, 89, of Muscatine, died Friday, August 29, 2008, at Unity Hospital. Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Officiating the service will be Bishop John Teed. Casket bearers will be Carl Schmelzer, Chris Schmelzer, Clayton Schmelzer, Josh Schmelzer, Darren Schmelzer, Randy Neipert, Jeannie Neipert, Jeff Longcor, and Kenny Neipert. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Alberta was born on August 16, 1919, in Eliza, Illinois, the daughter of Harry and Minnie Johnson Miller. She married Virgil Schmelzer on September 9, 1936, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 1981. She worked as a housekeeper and aide at Bellevue Nursing Home and Lipplegoose Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son in infancy, Virgil L. Schmelzer Jr., five brothers, Earl Lee, Ralph Franklin, Don, Russell, and Cecil, five sisters, Myrtle Mae, Effie, Ethel, Ona, and Frances, and four great-grandchildren preceded her in death.
