Wayne J. Lock, age 86, of Quincy, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 12:35 pm in Blessing Hospital. Wayne was born July 9, 1935 in Hannibal, MO, the son of Jay Smith and Pauline Watts Lock. He married Mary Whiteaker on April 6, 1957 in Quincy. She survives. Wayne was a 1953 graduate of Quincy High School. He also attended University of Illinois, and he graduated from Living Word Bible College. Wayne served in the United States Naval Reserve. He also served for four years in the United States Army, where he was engaged as an intelligence courier. Wayne received an honorable discharge from both branches. Wayne began his professional career in finance and banking at Illinois State Bank, where he would stay throughout their various incarnations. He retired as a Vice President and an investment broker after 35 years. After his retirement from the bank, Wayne continued to be an investment broker at A.G. Edwards until he was 70. Wayne was also an ordained American Baptist minister, and he was the pastor for Poe Baptist Church in Timewell for a number of years. d as a youth group leader, along with his wife, Mary. He also served on numerous committees and at various times Wayne filled in as an interim pastor. In addition to his wife, Mary, survivors included: his son, James (Babbett) Lock of Quincy, IL; six grandchildren: Katie (Jason) Lewis of Hannibal, MO; David (Katherine) Benes of New Mexico; Easton Allen of Quincy; Victoria Benes of Auburn, AL; Joshua James (Chrissy) Lock of Quincy; and Lydia Lock of Quincy; six great-grandchildren: Zelda Lewis; Addlynn Allen; and Daniel, Ashton, Arianna, and Saul Lock; his sister, Karla (James) Duesterhaus of Quincy; a cousin, Howard (Galena) Watts of Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Nancy K. Lock Benes. Services: 11:00 am Monday, August 30, 2021 at Central Baptist, with Pastor Jason Sommerfeldt officiating. Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois with military honors provided by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail.
