HEWERT GRAY WASHINGTON, Iowa â€" Hewert â€˜Budâ€™ Gray, 87, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at the Washington Care Center. A Memorial Service will be at a later date. Burial will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens in Mountain Home, Arkansas. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences for the Gray family may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com. Hewert was born on February 16, 1921, in Pleasant Hill, Illinois, the son of Guy W. and Fay Dexter Gray. He married Verna Wright on May 20, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas. She preceded him in death. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Captain in the US Army Air Corp. He piloted a B-29 plane in the Pacific Theater, flying 35 missions during the war. He served as Assistant Superintendant for the Davenport Public School System, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Twin Lakes Golf Association and was an avid golfer.
