RALPH GATTON WHAT CHEER, Iowa - Ralph Gatton, 56, of What Cheer, died Friday, January 2, 2009, in Muscatine. Burial will be at the Garrett Cemetery near Delta. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Ralph was born on March 3, 1952, in Oskaloosa, the son of Elmer and Darlene Hazen Gatton. He graduated from the Tri-County High School in 1970, and began his life-long career as a musician. He married Laurie Ann Allison in October of 1981, in London, England. In 2003, after playing three Mardi Gras in Louisiana he was given the Key to the City from the mayor. For his life-long dedication to music, he was inducted into Iowa's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received the Life-Long Achievement Award. He enjoyed history and genealogy. His family and friends have always been his motivation and encouragement in life. He is survived by his son Chris Gatton of Muscatine, and a brother Delmar Chip Gatton.
