John Norris Jessup HAVRE de GRACE, Maryland - John N. Jessup, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, January 1, 2009, at his home in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Funeral Service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the Zellman Funeral Home, 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, Maryland 21078. Dr. Ray Roberson will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Union Ave., Havre de Grace, MD 21078, the University of Iowa, Department of Chemistry Development Fund, P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, IA 52244-4550 or Friends of the Concord Point Lighthouse, P.O. Box 212 Havre de Grace, MD 21078. John was born in Elkhart, Indiana, the son of Dr. Parke M. and Pauline Norris Jessup. He was a devoted husband of 61 years to Ruth Weber Jessup. He was raised in Muscatine. After graduating high school, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. years took him to Charleston, West Virginia, Baltimore, Maryland, and Princeton, New Jersey. He and his wife retired to Havre de Grace in 1992. He was an avid reader with a keen interest in photography. He maintained a lifelong love of learning, often researching topics in history, biography, and science. He was a skilled woodworker and built handcrafted furniture for family and friends. He also worked on special projects for church and decoy carving. He was a member of the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church and a member of Friends of the Havre de Grace Public Library, Friends of the Concord Point Lighthouse, and the Young at Heart Club. He was a loving father to the Rev. Jennifer E. Cibelli of Alta Loma, California, Martha J. MacFarland and husband, Robert A., of Scaggsville, Maryland, and Ann W. Finn and husband, Robert F., of Pitman, New Jersey. He was the proud grandfather to Kristen L. Cibelli, Lindsay N. Hamilton and husband, Gregory B., of Berkeley, California, Megan M. McGuigan and husband, Matthew T., of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kaitlin E. MacFarland and Brian A. MacFarland of Scaggsville, Maryland, Sean M. Finn of Brooklyn, New York, Abigail C. Finn and Daniel C. Finn of Pitman, New Jersey. He is also survived by a sister, Joan Skinner of Northridge, California.
