Paul Douglas Hemingway IOWA CITY, Iowa - Paul Douglas Hemingway, 51, died Thursday, January 22, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics of complications from recurrent leukemia. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the West Branch High School Auditorium. Burial will be at the Oasis Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Branch. Memorials may be made to Friends United Meeting for the continuing work in Cuba, Iowa Public Television, and Kirkwood Community College Jazz radio, KCCK 88.3. Paul was born on March 7, 1957, in Iowa City, the son of Elmer and Lucille Dahlgren Hemingway. Growing up on the family farm near Oasis, he graduated from West Branch High School in 1976, and later received his bachelors in agronomy from Iowa State University. He married Donna Towers on December 14, 1985, in West Branch. He worked briefly as an ag consultant and a driver for Johnson County SEATS. riends Church and participated in service trips to Cuba with the Friends United Meeting. He served on the School Board for the West Branch Community Schools and was a past president. He was a Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack No. 156 and an assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop No. 212 in Iowa City. He enjoyed canoeing and camping and took several trips to the Boundary Waters with friends and the scouts. He kept the scout bus running, as his father had before him. He was known for his love of jazz music, motorcycling, flying his ultra-light plane, camping with his family and his ability to fix just about anything. Survivors include his wife, Donna Hemingway; his children, Jon, Emily, and Loren, all of rural Iowa City; a grandson, Felix Harwood Green of Iowa City; his father, Elmer Hemingway; four sisters, Sarah Ferneding of Omaha, Nebraska, Susan Artmann and husband, Allen of East Hanover, New Jersey, Jane Quaintance and husband, Bob of Byron, Minnesota and Martha Schwandt and husband, Andy of Marshalltown; two brothers, Mark Hemingway of Urbandale and Scott Hemingway of Seattle, Washington.
