IRENE MEERDINK MUSCATINE, Iowa - Irene G. Meerdink, 85, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Bickford Cottage. Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Mike Shield will officiate the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery on Monday, February 2, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Unity Hospice Program. Irene was born on November 8, 1923, in Muscatine, the daughter of Ralph and Mayme Morris Schmalz. She married Edward 'Bud' Meerdink on September 6, 1942, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1990. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Lady Elks. She enjoyed music, playing the organ, playing golf, cooking, and baking. Survivors include two sons, Gary E. Meerdink and wife, Millie, of Muscatine, and Thomas R.
