Leone Lena Burroughs, daughter of George and Matilda Kern Herbst, was born August 25, 1913, in Cedar County near Cedar Bluff, Iowa. She attended Tipton High School. On February 17, 1931, Leone was united in marriage to Lloyd Melvin Burroughs in Iowa City, Iowa.
Leone worked as a seamstress and clerk for Modern Cleaners and was employed at Betty & Vi's and Alterations. She was a member of various card clubs and Senior Dining.
Leone is survived by her daughter, Ruby Burroughs of Wapello, Iowa; sons, Ronald (Nancy) Burroughs of Tipton, Iowa, William Burroughs of Burlington, Washington, John (Pat) Burroughs of Davenport, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd Burroughs; daughter, Shirley Aikman; grandson, David; sisters, Alma Frederick, Velma Steffen; and brother, William Herbst. A general memorial fund has been established in memory of Leone.
