Helen Ruth Carter MEDIAPOLIS, Iowa - Helen Ruth Carter, 84, Mediapolis, died Sunday February 22, 2009, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis. Interment will be at the Kossuth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the funeral home, family will meet friends 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House. Helen was born on September 3, 1924, in Muscatine, the daughter of Benjamin and Esther Hahn Sywassink. She married Wayne Carter on June 25, 1945, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1983. She was a graduate of Muscatine High School. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis. She farmed with her husband. Survivors include a son, John Carter of Morning Sun; four daughters, Nancy Ivey of Spring, Texas; Patricia Dixon of Lorton, Virginia, Peggy Robinson of Johnston, Julie Brockert of Mediapolis; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
