Virginia M. 'Ginny' Powers DURANT, Iowa - Virginia M. Ginny Powers, 70, Durant, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at the University Hospitals in Iowa City, as the result of an injury sustained on February 7, 2009. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Building Fund or the Durant Ambulance in her memory. 'Ginny' was born on October 4, 1938, in Iowa City, the daughter of Thomas and Kathy Ingram Kelly. She married Robert K. Smith on September 13, 1960, and they later divorced. On March 17, 1983, she married John Jack T. Powers. He preceded her in death on September 4, 2007. She attended St. Mathias School and graduated from Hayes Catholic High School, she later graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Rock Island, Illinois. She was a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, the UIHC, and West Liberty Schools for numerous years. you know, she was blessed with the gift of gab and enjoyed the Friday nights with her sisters along with attending her grandchildren's athletic events and activities. She is survived by her children Rich Smith and wife, Laura, and their children, Erin, Megan and Matt, of West Branch, Brian Smith and his children, Ryan Volk and wife, Hanna, of Lone Tree, Amber, Brianna, and Cameron Smith of Iowa City and Genise Smith and her son, Kevin, of Walcott; her sisters, Judy Viner and husband, Bob, of Lone Tree, Mo Clanton and husband, Jim, of Muscatine; her brothers, Tom Kelly and wife, Ellie, of Sacramento, California, Dan Kelly and friend, Cindy Kardux of Muscatine, Mike Kelly and wife, Jacque, of Manteo, North Carolina, and Joe Kelly and wife, Kas, of Muscatine; special extended family, Teresa Volk and husband, Tracy, and their children, Nathan and Lauren of Hills; and Ginny's beloved dog, Duffy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kevin, and her husband, Jack.
