Richard W. 'Dick' Brockett LETTS, Iowa - Richard W. Dick Brockett, 84, of Letts, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Wapello Nursing amp; Rehab Center, Wapello. Funeral Service will be 1 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Walnut Park Baptist Church, Muscatine. Reverend Dennis Hakes and Reverend Darryl Erickson will officiate. Burial will be at the Letts Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at 11:30 a.m. for a light luncheon and fellowship before the funeral at the church. Visitation will be after noon on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello, the family will meet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the benefits of the Walnut Park Baptist Church, the Grandview Community Bible Church, and the Iowa City Hospice. 'Dick' was born on January 20, 1925, in Eliza, Illinois, the son of Leslie and Gertrude Sylvester Brockett. He married Wynonnia Blake. Plastics in Wapello. He simply loved to work and could always find something to do. In early years, he enjoyed racing jalopies. He continued to enjoy car races especially NASCAR. He was a member of the Walnut Park Baptist Church in Muscatine. He is survived by his wife, Janice Brockett of Letts; his seven children, Cathy and Mike Bewley of LeClair, Patrick Brockett of Maquoketa, Peggy and Jerry Waack of Elizabeth, West Virginia, Sherril and Greg Gappa of Crystal, Minnesota, Jeffery Long of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, Rick and Sue Brockett of Topeka, Kansas, and Molly and Chris Osmun of Newton; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and two brothers, Robert Brockett of Muscatine and Clifford Brockett of Cambridge, Illinois and Mesa, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances.
