Viola Marie (Kliewer) Holmes was born on February 28, 1910 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota to Peter and Marie (Toews) Kliewer. She was baptized on May 19, 1929. She received her education from rurals schools near Mountain Lake, Delft, and Bingham Lake. On February 22, 1933, she was united in marriage to George E. Holmes at the Bethel Mennonite parsonage in Mountain Lake. After their marriage, they farmed in Cottonwood County. They lived in Iowa for eight years where George drove truck. They moved back to the home farm in Bingham Lake in February of 1950 and continued farming. In 1968, they retired and moved into Mountain Lake. She moved into Windom after her husband died, living on her own at the Tanglewood apartments. Viola recently moved into the Good Samaritan Society - The Village in Mountain Lake where she passed away on Sunday afternoon, October 17, 2010, with her family by her side at the wonderful age of 100. Viola was a member of Bingham Lake Methodist Church and later attended the Evangelical Free Church in Windom. r children, Lyman Holmes and his wife, Pattie, of Windom; Dorothy Schaffer of Lake Crystal; Irene Koenekamp of Vadnais Heights; and Shirley Otto and her husband, Roger, of Rosemount; eleven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Winniefred Quiring of Mountain Lake; one brother, Edward Kliewer and his wife, Edna, of Windom; one sister-in-law, Florence Caldwell of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; two son-in-law's, Bernard Koenekamp and Kermit Schaffer; one daughter-in-law, Evelyn Cuppy Holmes; three brothers, Art Kliewer, Dave Kliewer and Arnold Kliewer; and one sister, Annabelle Kliewer Smith.
