Alice 'Sally' Parish MONTPELIER, Iowa - Alice Anita Sally Parish, 93, of Montpelier, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at her home. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the New Era Ziegler Memorial Lutheran Church. Casketbearers will be Jim Ingersoll Sr., Jim Ingersoll Jr., Harry Black, Jim Black, Farrell Wiley and Allen Nichols. Burial will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the New Era Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 on Friday, May 22, 2009, Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the church. Memorials may be made to the New Era Lutheran Church, Montpelier Fire Department or Hospice Compassus of Davenport in memory of Sally. 'Sally' was born on July 31, 1915, in Letts, the daughter of Elmer W. and Bertha L. Foster Black. She married Floy Newton on January 1, 1939, in Letts. She was a member of the New Era Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose, Muscatine and was a 4-H leader. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, playing cards and traveling. ...[more]

She had worked at the Elks Club, Davenport Bank and St. John's Methodist Church, all of Davenport, before retiring in 1977 from the Bethany Home, Moline, after 23 years. She will be deeply missed by her son, Kenneth Parish of Montpelier, her dog, Precious, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, in 1982 and two brothers, Arthur and George Black.
