John H. VanAtta WILTON, Iowa - Jack H. VanAtta, 89, of Wilton, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at his home in Wilton. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Wilton. Reverend Joshua Reimche will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by organist Linda Timmsen, pianist, Zach Mien, and vocalists Buck Wacker, Wanda Treimer and Eva Belitz. Casket bearers will be George Norenberg, Jerry Steffensmeier, Jason Allgood, Mike Wyatt, Tyler VanAtta and Brent Wyatt. Interment will take place at the Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Zion Lutheran Church.Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. John was born on June 24, 1919, to Glenn and Elizabeth Rohrbach VanAtta in Muscatine. He married Glenna M. Wacker on August 17, 1947, in Bennett. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1936. ucation from the University of Iowa after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He taught mathematics for 30 years, 27 years at the Wilton Community Schools. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton where he taught adult Sunday School. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, trains and reading westerns and mysteries. He enjoyed his family, working in his garden and being outdoors. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Glenna VanAtta of Wilton; three daughters, Deborah Laughlin of Rockford, Illinios, Rebeckah Allgood and husband, Jerry Steffensmeier, of Iowa City and Christine Norenberg and husband, George, of Iowa City; a son, Bill VanAtta and wife, Sandy, of Wilton, 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jarod Allgood, three sisters, Joanne VanAtta, Marian Satterthwaite and Marjorie McGuire.
