ucation from the University of Iowa after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He taught mathematics for 30 years, 27 years at the Wilton Community Schools. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton where he taught adult Sunday School. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, trains and reading westerns and mysteries. He enjoyed his family, working in his garden and being outdoors. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Glenna VanAtta of Wilton; three daughters, Deborah Laughlin of Rockford, Illinios, Rebeckah Allgood and husband, Jerry Steffensmeier, of Iowa City and Christine Norenberg and husband, George, of Iowa City; a son, Bill VanAtta and wife, Sandy, of Wilton, 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jarod Allgood, three sisters, Joanne VanAtta, Marian Satterthwaite and Marjorie McGuire.
