John David "Davy" Crockett, 57, of Lowell, died Friday, October 9, 2010 in an automobile accident. Mr. Crockett was born January 6, 1953 in Fort Madison, the son of Charles Henderson and Eleanor Luceil Parks Crockett. He attended schools in New London and Florida. He enlisted in the Navy in 1971 while living in Florida and served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy. Upon discharge, he enlisted in the Naval Reserve, and later enlisted in the Army Reserve, where he served for 20 years as a heavy equipment driver. He especially liked the humanitarian missions that the Army Reserve took to the Honduras. He worked as a roofer, housepainter and in logging. Mr. Crockett was generous and kind, with an easy smile. He loved his friends, family, his dogs, the outdoors, the river and the picturesque valley of Lowell. He never knew a stranger. Mr. Crockett is survived by one brother, Charles Henderson Crockett of Temple,Texas; and six sisters, Laura Getz of Burlington, Marcia Davenport of Sacramento, CA, Anna Fullerton of New London, Deb Scott of Middletown, Christine Crockett and Juanita Shields Crockett of Carrollton, MO. s will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 30 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Mike Hess will officiate. Military Rites will be presented by the Henry County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM Saturday at the Chapel with the family receiving friends from 10:00 until the time of the service. The body has been cremated and a private family inurnment will be held in Lowell Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
