TOM KORTE MUSCATINE, Iowa - Tom Korte, 74, of Muscatine, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at his home. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Stephan Pera of Zion Lutheran Church will offiiciate the service. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. The family will meet friends for a time of food and fellowship at the American Legion following the service. Tom was born on May 27, 1935, in Tucson, Arizona, the son of Mary Evelyn Gibson. Following her death, Tom was adopted by his grandparents, Charles J. and Josephine Lord Korte. He married Jean Nazarenus on September 4, 1955, in Muscatine. He worked at the Muscatine Journal for 35 years retiring in 1994. He then was a substitute school bus driver retiring in 2002. He was a member of Moose Lodge #388 and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed boating and woodworking and was a St. Louis Cardinal and Denver Bronco fan. Korte and wife, Gillian, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tim Korte and significant other, Lisa Blair, of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Evie Hirt and fiance, Fred Day, of Muscatine, and Linda Korte and fiance, Robert McDonald, of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren, Joe Hirt and wife, Rosie, of Muscatine, Jake Taylor of Muscatine, Jenny Hirt and significant other, Sang Luu, of Iowa City, and Cameron Smart of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four great grandchildren, Derek Hirt, Alexis Hirt, Luke Luu, and Kameron Taylor; one brother, Jack Korte and wife, Marilyn, of Rocky Mount, Missouri; and one sister, Marilyn Davis and husband, Tom, of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his birth mother and adoptive parents.
