Virginia M. Fick MUSCATINE, Iowa - Virginia M. Fick, 89, of Muscatine, formerly of Wilton, , died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Carrington Place in Muscatine. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday, July 26, Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, Wesley United Methodist Church. Dr. Hal Green will officiate. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to service, church. Interment will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton, with Dr. Bruce Ursin officiating. Serving as casketbearers will be her grandsons, Jim Fick, Jeff Fick, David Fick, Dan Fick, Matt Carey and Dave Grossklaus. Honorary casketbearer will be her granddaughter, Jill Grossklaus. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Muscatine, or Unity Hospice in her memory. Musical selections will be provided by pianist Sally Potter and vocalist Henry Bentley. Mrs. Fick was born Jan. 29, 1920, the daughter of James and Margaret (Hoskins) Smith in Muscatine County. She married Melvin L. Fick Nov. 27, 1938, in Cedar Rapids. and in Cedar and Muscatine Counties, moving to Wilton in 1965. She later worked at the Wilton Nursing Home, Lauser's Variety Store and Grunder Ready Mix. In 1999, she and her husband moved to Muscatine to be closer to their family. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Muscatine, and a former longtime active member of the United Methodist Church, Wilton. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and in later years she enjoyed reading and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. Above all, she loved her family and the time she spent with them. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marcia Marcie Fick Carey of Muscatine, her son, Dr. Donald D. Fick and wife ,Barbara of Muscatine, six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin; her sisters, Charlotte Grunder and Janet Snider; and her brothers, Kermit and Morris Smith.
