Timothy 'Tim' W. Mathes MUSCATINE, Iowa - Timothy Tim W. Mathes, 64, Muscatine, died Saturday, August 29, 2009, at HCR Manor Care, Davenport. Graveside Service will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Greenwood Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Bill Hucker, Brian Garrett, Rusty Hillman, Chad Mathes, Steve Edwards and Kyle Ellithorpe. Honorary bearers will be Carl Yerington, Dan Keller, Mike Lamp and Scott Sauer. Full military rites will be by the combined units of the V.F. W Post 1565 and the American Legion Post No. 27. There will be no visitation. The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is handling arrangements. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in his memory. Tim was born on May 25, 1945, in Muscatine, the son of Ira and Ada Elizabeth Nickols Mathes. Tim was married to An Sung Cha Mickey in Korea, they later divorced, he then married Phyllis Edgington in 1989 in Muscatine. He was a Viet Nam veteran serving two tours of duty with the special forces of the Green Beret, from 1967-71. He was an avid fisherman, squirrel hunter, cook and woodworker. at Scott's Outdoors, where he retired in 2007 He will be deeply missed by his wife, Phyllis Mathes of Muscatine; three sons, Marvin Mathes and wife, Mary, of Hampton, Virginia; Nick Mathes and his friend, Donna Lawson, of Hampton, Virginia, Kevin Mathes and his friend, Claire Connel, of Lakeland, Florida; a daughter, Adena Mathes-McGrew and husband, Mark, of Newport News, Virginia; two step-daughters, Teresa Garrison and fianc�'©, Jerry Sapp, of Hawthorne, Florida, and Debra Miles and husband, Scott, of Kuna, Idaho; a step-son, Kevin Mathes and wife, Kimberly, of Muscatine; 10 grandchildren, Carrie, Chad, Jamie, Hunter, Phyllicia, McKenzie, Tyler, Brandon, Hunter and Cole; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Skyler, Zachary, Madalyn and Astin; his father, Ira Mathes of Muscatine; a sister, Leona Ellithorpe and husband, Al, of Walcott; father-in-law, W.E. Edgington and wife, Carol, of Alabama; special aunt, who helped raise him, Ellen Figgins of Muscatine; and several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, a brother, Stevie in infancy, a grandson, Jason Garrison, and his mother-in-law, LaVella Edgington.
