RICHARD OBERHAUS MUSCATINE, Iowa - Richard Paul Oberhaus, 84, of Muscatine, died Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City. Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Ralph J Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Chaplain Harold Schutte of Iowa Hospice will officiate the service. After the service a funeral luncheon will be held at Sunnybook, 3315 Diana Queen Drive. Visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Iowa Hospice or Senior Resources of Muscatine. Richard was born on February 18, 1925, in Muscatine, the son of Harry and Ruby McElrae Oberhaus. He married Joyce Reynolds on May 1, 1955, in Davenport, Iowa. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and joined the Civil Air Patrol right out of high school. He was a US Army veteran serving in the US Army Air Corps from October of 1943 until March of 1946. He was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 33 years, retiring in 1991. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Oberhaus of Muscatine; two sons, Rod Oberhaus and wife, Cassie, of Marble Falls, Texas, and Mike Oberhaus of Honolulu, Hawaii; two daughters, Susan Oberhaus of Jacksonville, Florida, and Mary Reynolds and husband, Frank, of San Diego, California; two grandchildren, Michael and Anthony Reynolds; and four nephews, Jon, Tom, Pat, and Joe Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Jeanne (Mary Louise) Carroll.
