Doris E. Nelson

Doris Evangeline Nelson was born on July 21, 1922, in Westbrook, Minnesota to the late John and Myrtle (Solater) Hass. She was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Doris received her education in Westbrook Public Schools; graduating from Westbrook High School in the Class of 1940. On August 5, 1946, Doris was united in marriage to Burdette Nelson in Marysville, Kansas. This marriage was blessed with six children, Sharon, Nancy, Steve, Susan, Marsha and David. Doris and Burdette lived their entire life in Storden where Doris was employed as a clerk in the grocery store and a cook at the Storden-Jeffers High School until retiring in 1990. After retirement, Doris was involved in volunteer work and did quilting and crocheting. Three years ago, Doris moved into Peterson Estates in Westbrook. Recently, she was transferred to the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she passed away on Tuesday afternoon, October 26, 2010, at the wonderful age of 88. Doris is survived by her six children, Sharon Bergendahl (Dave) of Yankton, SD; Nancy Johnson (Gerry) of Grand Rapids; Steve Nelson (Wanda) of Minneapolis; Susan Nelson of Lamberton; Marsha Underwood (Mike) of Mankato; David Nelson (Dawn) of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lori Burks of Pasadena, CA; and many nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Burdette (1981); four brothers, Dorlan, Willard, Howard and Harold; one sister, Lila Olson; and one grandson, Matthew Neperman.
