PAUL E. BUTCH GROTHE MUSCATINE, Iowa - Paul E. Butch Grothe, 74, of Muscatine, died Thursday, November 26, 2009, at home. Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Waldon Askren will officiate the service. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and Pete McCleary, and Donny Snavely. Casket Bearers will be Keith Lange, Mike Gilday, Dan Beenen, Donny Wilson, Aaron Grothe, Rick Lopez, and Tim Ellsworth. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009, at the funeral home with a 7 p.m. Masonic Rites Service. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Kevin Grothe. Paul was born on October 28, 1935, in Muscatine, the son of Otto and Lula Walters Grothe. He married Phyllis Martin on December 31, 1963 in Wilton. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2008. He graduated from Grandview High School, class of 1953. He was a US Army Veteran. He was owner/operator of B an K Inc. He was a member of the Iowa Lodge No. 2 A.F. and A.M., and Kaaba Temple Shrine. Survivors include one son, Kevin Grothe and wife, Lil, of Muscatine; three daughters, Darla Gilbrech of Boone, Terri Beam of Muscatine and Becky Schubick and husband, Randy, of Muscatine; eight grandchildren, Nikki Burke, Lindsay Schubick, Annissa Swenson, Ashley Grothe, Aaron Grothe, John Brockert, Jeff Martz, and Brandon Burke; six great-grandchildren, Kyrah Anderson, Braydon Burke, Devin Martz, Aiden Swenson, Daine Martz, and Bryson Burke; one brother, Walter Grothe and wife, Gladys, of Des Moines; and four sisters, Ruth Yerington of Muscatine, Luella Burritt of Denver, Colorado, Edna Saue of Orange, California, and Elaine Miller of Reading, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and four brothers-in-law, Howard, Kenneth, Hans 'Arvid', and Glen.
