DIMAS HERNANDEZ MUSCATINE, Iowa - Dimas Hernandez, 60, of Muscatine, died Monday, November 30, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Davenport. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the St. Mathias Church. Burial will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at St. Mary's Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post #27 and the V.F.W. Post #1565. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the church. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Dimas Hernandez. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is assisting the Hernandez family with arrangements. Dimas was born on September 23, 1949, in Tynan, Texas, the son of Dimas and Ernestina Garcia Hernandez. He married Sylvia Garcia in February of 1969, in Muscatine. They later divorced. He was a veteran of the US Army, where he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked for HJ Heinz for 10 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. and also belonged to the Rock Island Iowa Workers Union. daughters, Esther Hernandez of Texas, and LeAnna Hernandez of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren; three brothers, David Hernandez of North Liberty, Juan Hernandez of Muscatine, and Ramiro Hernandez of Muscatine; and three sisters, Lucy Rameriz of Texas, Rosa Villarreal of Muscatine, and Margie Rayes of Muscatine. He was preceded in death his parents and one sister, Ernestina Hernandez.
