John A. Luth MUSCATINE, Iowa - John A. Luth, 82, Muscatine, formerly of Wilton, died Monday, January 25, 2010, at his home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton. The officiant will be Father James Vrba. Serving as casket bearers will be his grandsons: Jacob Gunia, Adam Leming, Anthony Leming, Ryan Cristelli, Shane Cristelli, Brendan Kapella, Benjamin Kapella, Joshua Luth, Jonathon Luth, James Luth, Stephen Luth and Abraham Leming. Burial will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wilton. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to service on Friday, January 29, 2010, at the church. Memorials may be made to Area Foundation of AA. John was born on June 17, 1927, in Harpers Ferry, the son of Alfred and Elsie Lami Luth. He married Mary Kenney on April 30, 1949, in Burlington. In his employment he recieved many awards including employee of the year at Heinz and numerous awards as maintenance director. He was a member of St. Mary's Wilton, St. Mary's Muscatine, and Knights of Columbus, Muscatine. He was a founding father of Area Foundation AA, Muscatine. He was an advisor for the Iowa State Commission on Farming and served for many years on the West Liberty Fair Board. He served on the FFA board, Wilton, where he helped established the FFA building and program. He prided himself as being a problem solver whether it be electrical, mechanical or personal. In his later years he created birdhouses and flower arrangements for his friends and family. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Luth of Muscatine; his daughters, Lynn Leming of Davenport, Pat Gunia and husband, John, of Souix City, Diana Cristelli and husband, Pat, of Ada, Oklahoma, Pam Hansen and husband, Terry, of Davenport, and Becky Kapella and husband, Ken of Hibbing, Minnesota; a son, David Luth and wife, Cyndi, of Muscatine; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Ella Mae Schwenker of Arizona, Elinor Thorston and husband, John, of Iowa; and a brother, Delmar Luth and wife, Ruth, of Blue Grass. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert and Henry Luth and a sister, Carrie.
