ERNEST P. SCHMUTZ MUSCATINE, Iowa - Ernest P. Schmutz, 88, of Muscatine, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Carrington Place. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Jeffrey Pautz of Our Savior Lutheran Church will officiate the service. Honorary bearers will be Michael Riggan, George Krakow, Elmer Krakow, Dave Lucas, Alvin Schnoebelen, Dan Duffey, Jim Reynolds, and Norman Wright. Casket bearers will be Brian Schmutz, Jeff Riggan, David Riggan, Clarence Krakow, Wayne Krakow, and Dale Krakow. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to Our Savior Lutheran Church. Ernest was born on December 2, 1921, in Ladora, the son of Mathias and Pauline Pretz Schmutz. He married Lillian Krakow on November 24, 1948, in Marengo. He was a US Army Air Force veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater. eran Church, a lifetime member of the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457, a member of the Lone Tree Volunteer Fire Department, and a served as treasurer for the Boy Scouts in Marengo. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lillian Schmutz of Muscatine; one son, Donald Schmutz and wife, Kathy, of Noel, Missouri, one daughter, Diane Riggan and husband, Michael, of Muscatine, seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
